Gov. Nwifuru Pegs Teachers Retirement Age At 65


Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru of Ebonyi has moved the retirement age of teachers in the state civil service from 60 to 65 years and length of service from 35 to 40 years.

This was contained in a statement signed by the permanent secretary in the state ministry of education, Monday Nkwuda, and made available to journalists in Abakaliki.

The permanent secretary who said that the extension covered teachers who retired from May 2023 hence those  retired from May 9, 2023 should to take cognizance of the development.

The statement urged them to go to the central payroll, state ministry of Finance and Economic Development for recapturing and updating.

The governor had, on various fora, declared that education was a major thrust of his administration and pledged to revamp the sector to ensure qualitative education.

With this development, it is expected that the teachers would reciprocate government gesture by being more proactive and dedicated to their duties.
